Consul General ofIndia in Milan Ajungla Jamir, accompanied by Consul and Head of Chancery Sandip Kumar Kujur, visited the Menga Bassa quarry in Botticino (Brescia), together with Giovanni Merendino CEO Lombarda Marmi - MGI Group and representatives of the Botticino Stone District. The visit was organized by Apindustria Confapi Brescia, as part of an initiative conducted in cooperation with the Rotary Club Valle Sabbia Centenario.
The meeting confirms the excellent relationship between India and our country; from the business point of view, the relations between Brescia and Indian companies are among the most profitable and well-established and, therefore, the visit of the high diplomatic representative is a confirmation of the mutual will to pursue to the best of our ability the cooperation already in place for the benefit of the entire industrial fabric of the province.
At the center, then, are business relations with India for the stone sector "Our will through the creation of the new industrial district Brescia Stone District is to give increasing prominence and importance to the Brescia stone sector as a whole, highlighting all the figures involved in thestone quarrying and processing chain. We are increasingly convinced thatunion is strength," says Giovanni Merendino, representing Lombarda Marmi, a longtime Botticino marble quarrying company. "The visit of Consul Ajungla Jamir was for us a further positive sign of the good relations we have withIndia, which to date is our first trading partner. The Consul was pleasantly impressed with the Mural we have dedicated in the quarry to the figure of Gandhi and she shares our intent to spread a message of peace and cooperation and nonviolence, today all the more so, claiming that what we are advocating is evident in thework itself and the message is perfectly captured. During the round table discussion that then followed in Apindustria, the Consul expressed her willingness to open consular offices in our city as well, thus confirming theimportance of Brescia's longstanding business and non-business relations withIndia. Moreover, in our city the Indian community is the third most important in Italy, a reason that further consolidates this will. We hope that the project can be realized so that we can have an even more direct channel with our Indian interlocutors and that exchanges between our two countries can be further facilitated and fostered. For our part, we will continue to increase our effortsso that our marble will continue to be more and more appreciated and once again play a leading role in the world."
Consul Jamir began her career within Indian diplomacy in 2005. He served at the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur dealing with issues related to the political and labor spheres. Since August 31, 2021, he has held the post of Consul General of India in Milan.
