From the Apuan Alps to the world: the journey of marble, starting from the quarries, all along the next chain.
On Saturday, April 18, 2020, TG3 Bellitalia 's column dedicated to cultural heritage offered, as part of its usual journey in stages, an in-depth look at the Vie del Marmo, a fascinating journey through the places that have made the Apuo-Versiliese district world-famous for the unrepeatable and unique spectacle offered by its quarries.
Following the route of the former Marmifera Railroad begins the discovery of marble (for the Romans marmor lunensis, "marble of Luni") being quarried in territories already known in pre-Roman times for white. This basin hosts a very large quarrying district, still thriving today thanks to the technologies used for extraction and processing, which have made it a much more versatile material than in the past, and to the close synergy with art studios, academies and graduate schools.
Marble, the absolute protagonist of contemporary architecture and design, is the symbol of a Made in Italy localized in a short supply chain that declines extraction, processing and marketing, with highly skilled workers and knowledge.
In collaboration with Prof. Giuseppe Silvestri - teacher at Felice Palma High School of Art in Massa (MS).
